The Republican primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 25.

At stake is the decision on who should represent the party in the November election for Juab County Commissioner in Slot A&emdash;Robert Steele, incumbent, or Richard Brough, challenger.

In this case, said Ingram, the primary will actually decide the election.

"The Democrats do not have a candidate in that slot," said Pat Ingram, Juab County Clerk-Auditor.

Only registered Republicans will be allowed to vote in the election, she said.

Voters should not assume that, because they have been party supporters or have voted in other primary elections as Republicans, that they are declared members of the party.

Ingram said voters should check with her office if they plan to vote in the primary. If they are not registered as Republicans, and want to vote in that election, they must re-register as Republican voters.

"They need to come in and fill out a new registration form," said Ingram.

Levan, Nephi, Mona and Rocky Ridge all are in the 3rd Congressional District, said Ingram. In that district, there is not a primary for Republicans nor for Democrats.

However, in Eureka and Callao voting districts, there is a primary for the 1st Congressional District on the Democratic ticket.

Republicans determined, on the state level, that those voting in a primary as Republicans would need to be pre-registered for that party. Those who are un-declared will not be allowed to vote.

On a state-level, the party determined that elections are sometimes swayed by members of the other party who have turned out to vote for the weaker of two candidates in hopes that the majority of voters would then vote for the candidate of the other party in the November election.

Therefore, following the new rule this year, the local Slot A county commission seat now held by Robert Steele will be decided in the primary.

"The Republicans did not decide between the two candidates in the county caucus," said Ingram. "The primary election will decide that and, since the Democrats do not have a candidate, the election will be determined in the primary."
