Sheriff David Carter would like all citizens of Juab County to be aware of the recent home burglaries that have occurred county wide. There has been an increase in home burglaries in all the towns/cities within Juab County this year. To help prevent the burglaries from occurring, Sheriff Carter has developed a home security check list that citizens can review to determine each individual's weak points in their home. The survey check list can be completed by every home owner which shows their individual risk needs of home protection. The survey is very simple and takes only a few minutes to complete. After completing the survey, it will reveal the weak points of the home. There are twenty-three survey questions to answer on the survey home security list with a "yes" or "no" answer to each question. As you eliminate the "no" answers, you improve the protection to your home security. Go through the list carefully and systematically. The survey is divided into five categories: exterior of home, doors, windows, when you go on a trip, and safe practices. You may want to look over the situation at night, when most burglars work to commit crimes. Sheriff Carter would like citizens to remember, this check list only points out your weak points in your home. You are not protected until these "no" areas are corrected. Complying with these suggestions will not, of course, make your property burglar proof, but will improve your protection in your home and property. Sheriff Carter, would like to encourage all citizens of the County to help get involved in each of their neighborhoods and communities. With the help of all citizens in Juab County we can all contribute to helping stop or reduce the number of burglaries that are on the rise within the County. Sheriff Carter, would like to urge everyone to report any and all suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office as soon as they see it occurring. The faster the suspicious activity is reported to the Sheriff's Office, the faster a deputy or police officer can be dispatched to the area. Time is critical in helping to apprehend the suspicious person. The following are a few questions on Sheriff Carter's home security survey list. A complete list can be provided to everyone who would like to receive one. Simply contact the Juab Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Carter, or one of your local Deputies and ask for a copy of the, "Home Security Survey List." Sheriff Carter or one of his Deputies would be more than happy to bring one directly to your house, or you can stop by the Sheriff's Office anytime and pick up a copy at 425 W. Sheeplane, Nephi Ut. Phone# 435-623-1344. Sample survey questions: Do you have front and rear porch lights? Do you have house numbers placed on the front of the house and clearly visible? Do you lock your car and take the keys out even when it's parked in a garage? Do you have locking devices installed on all windows? When going on a trip do you notify a neighbor prior to leaving? Do you have emergency numbers posted by the phone and written in large format? Do you have serial numbers of all valuable property recorded? Can any of your doors be opened by breaking out a panel of glass or light wood? Do you leave some shades up so that the house doesn't look deserted? Do you leave window coverings open when not at home? These are just a few of the survey home security questions that you can answer to help prevent a burglary occurring at your house. Please contact the Sheriff's Office to get a copy of the entire survey to ensure you are taking appropriate precautions at your house to prevent burglaries in your area. Sheriff Carter, is committed to prevention and community involvement to help reduce the recent burglaries. With your help, we can prevent and stop these burglars from committing crimes before they occur. |
