The Juab High School Golf team won the 2A State
Championship last Wednesday at the Palisades State Park Golf
Course in Manti. Juab ended the season undefeated, and beat
nearest San Juan by 12 strokes. Juab shot a round of 319.
San Juan shot 331.
Jake Jones placed second individually with a hot round of
76, and earned First Team All-State honors. Juab's other
four golfers, Larry Brough, K.C. Draper, Monty Charans, and
Dustin Robinson, were all named to the Second Team
All-State.
Juab's team was deep, and any of Juab's top eight golfers
would have placed high at state. Jimmy McKnight, Colt
Bowles, and Lance Ludlow were all regulars on the golf team
during the year, but state rules only allow five golfers
from each team to participate in the State Tournament.
Juab won its first state championship since 1996. Juab
placed second in 1997, and in the top four in 1998 and
1999.
Juab is also expected to do well next year, with Draper,
Robinson, and Brough all returning for their Junior
year.
