Judy Higginson
1944 ~ 2014


Judith Ann Higginson, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Nephi, Utah on March 26, 2014. She was born on February 18, 1944 in Payson, Utah to Robert Roscoe Garrett and Aleen Lundell. Judy married James Franklin Higginson on November 4, 1966 in the Manti Temple.
She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully in many callings. Judy was an excellent cook, always sending cookies and other baked goods home with everyone. She grew up on a farm and learned the value of hard work and instilled that in all of her children. Judy was a second mom to many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends, never turning away a chance to help others. She was a tutor and substitute teacher for many years. Judy was a great example of service. She was always there to take care of those in need. Judy is now truly just fine.
Survived by her children, Janice (Michael) Crank, Mike Higginson, Denise (Troy) Christensen, Diane (Mark) Mecham, Jeana Higginson and Bret (June) Higginson; 8 grandchildren; father, Ross Garrett; siblings, Susan (Leon) Winter, Blake (Susan) Garrett and Paula (Jim) Bosh. Preceded in death by her mother and husband.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 N. 400 East, Nephi, Utah. Interment, Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery.


Lois M. Thomas Elmer
1947 ~ 2014


Lois M. Thomas Elmer passed away March 28, 2014. Born August 11, 1930 to William F Baxter and Margaret E Halford Baxter in SLC, UT. She married Virgil G. Thomas January 25, 1947. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1961.
She enjoyed working as a seamstress for 35+ years. Raised six children in American Fork and Orem. Widowed at 61 and reunited and married Clyde R. Elmer who later passed away in 2003.
Preceded in death in by two sons, Sherald D. and Douglas G. Thomas; 1 granddaughter and 1 great-granddaughter. Survived by son, Gary V. Thomas, and daughters, Shirley Barlow (Don), Shauna Chlarson (Rod), and Debbie Tidwell. She is a grandmother to 22, and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at the LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 100 W. 300 N. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 11:00 am. Viewings were held Monday night from 6:30-8:00 pm and one hour before the funeral. Funeral Services provided by Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W. 300 N., Nephi, Utah. Interment, American Fork Cemetery.


Rea Fae Beck Carlton
Alpine, Utah


Rea Fae Beck Carlton, our beloved mom, passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2014 in Mona, UT. She was born April 29, 1926 in Alpine, Utah to Leland and Verland Grace Healey Beck. She grew up in Alpine and graduated from American Fork High School where she was a cheerleader. After World War II, when her sweetheart returned from the Pacific, she married Lloyd R. Carlton in the Salt Lake Temple in 1946.
She was active in her LDS faith and held many church positions such as Primary teacher, Primary President, Stake Primary President, and Stake Relief Society President. She was also active in civic affairs and the PTA where she served as PTA Council President in the Alpine School District. She worked as a teller at the Bank of American Fork at the Alpine Branch and retired from there after 12 years.
Rea had a wonderful alto voice and sang with two double trios. She also enjoyed entertaining at various Alpine events where she sang and danced with many of her friends. She enjoyed beautiful flowers and enjoyed gardening in her yard. She also was known for her cooking. At any fundraising event, her pies went for premium prices. Her children and grandchildren will miss her pies at Thanksgiving and the cookies that she always had in her kitchen. She enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends. Bear Lake was one of her favorites.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her sister, Cleo Shepherd. She is survived by her children: Yvonne (James, deceased) Williams of St. George; Gaya (Michael Minch) Carlton of Draper; Jason (Natalie) Carlton of Fairview; and Rick (Doni) Carlton of Mona, 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren who will miss her. She is also survived by her siblings: Leland Ross (JoAnn, deceased) Beck of Alpine; LaRene (LaMar) Drew of Alpine; Deanna (Ken) Brown of Centerville; Kathleen (Max) Brown of Alpine; Cheryl (Gerald) Walker of Beaverton, Oregon; and ReNae (Fred) Ketch of Alpine.
We would like to thank family, friends, and Dr. Rasmussen and the health care professionals at Central Valley Home Health and Hospice who have been so kind in serving Rea. You have show true Christ-like love as you helped us through this difficult time.
A viewing will be held at the Anderson Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, UT on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Mountainville 1st LDS Ward Chapel, preceded by a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Mortuary.


Donald Vermell Beck
1931 ~ 2014


Donald V. Beck, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home on March 19, 2014. He was the son of Ida W. and Vermell A. Beck and was born on May 3, 1931 in Nephi, Utah. He married Joann Lewis in 1986 and between them have five children: Jacqualine Beck, Brad Beck, Jenae Beck Marcum, Craig Lewis and Stanton Lewis.
Don came to Vacaville in 1961 as an oil distributor for Tidewater Oil. He later formed D&B Tanklines and started Beck Distributing. He retired in 1978, after which he got his California Contractors License, divided property and built several homes.
He loved to hunt with his friends and especially enjoyed his many hunting trips to the Ruby Mountains in Nevada.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, March 30 at McCune Garden Chapel. Donations may be made to Utah State University, Logan, Utah.
