Earl LaMont McPherson
1925-2009
Earl LaMont (Mont) McPherson, age 83, peacefully passed away April 18, 2009 in Nephi, UT. Mont was born September 26, 1925, in Rigby, Idaho, to Earl Samuel and Eva Madsen McPherson. When he was four months old, they moved to Nephi, Utah, where he spent the remaining years of his life, except for his stent in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Japan. On May 22, 1950, he married Arla Nielson in the Manti Temple, whom he met on blind date at Snow College. Subsequently, they raised six children, Paul (Judy) McPherson, Andrew (Jolynn) McPherson, Joy (Bruce) McPherson-Beal, Timothy (Maxine) McPherson, Robins (Kimberly) McPherson and Mary Ann Jolley (deceased). He was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Mont’s life was dedicated to raising his children as he worked at Thermoid (Nephi Rubber Plant) and on his farm. His hard work, determination and love of family were the examples on which his children have based their lives. After his retirement, he helped his children in any way he could. He treasured the time he spent helping with their farms as his love for the soil always ran deep within him. In the later years of his life, he spent much of his days surveying the new buildings which were being built where he became well acquainted with all of the builders as well as watching the crops in the field grow and harvested and visiting with his family, friends and neighbors. He never gave up driving his old black truck.
Mont was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Kathleen McPherson and Elaine Goulter, his daughter Mary Ann and two grandsons Benjamin McPherson and Jeromie Tanner. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he leaves behind two brothers, LaMar McPherson and Rex McPherson, and a sister, Melba Dean Grandstaff.
Graveside Services were held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
Emily Jean Motes
1988-2009
Emily Jean Motes, 20, passed away on April 17, 2009 in Nephi, Utah.
She was battling addiction when she returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
Emily was born on June 29, 1988 to William J. and Cheryl Greenhalgh Motes in Nephi, Utah.
In her childhood, Emily enjoyed playing soccer, crocheting, riding four wheelers and spending time with family and friends.
After graduation from Juab High School, she briefly lived and worked in the Provo/Orem area.
She participated in the Miss Juab Pageant, showcasing her talent as a Native American hoop dancer. Emily spent numerous hours scrapbooking and expressing her feelings through writing.
Emily was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She is an enrolled member of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians of Nevada.
Emily was an American Legion Auxiliary member thanks to her grandmother, Betty Jean Motes who she received her middle name from. They shared a special bond.
Survived by her parents, William and Cheryl Motes; sisters, Angela; Audrey; Elizabeth; grandparents, Richard and Arlene Greenhalgh; grandma, Betty Jean Motes; many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Preceded in death by her grandfather, Kempton E. Motes; uncle, Phillip K. Motes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 N. 400 E. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services, at the Stake Center. Interment, Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
James Franklin Higginson
1939-2009
James Franklin Higginson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away April 19, 2009 in Nephi, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 26, 1939 in Nephi, Utah, to Joseph Max Higginson and Dorthy Ronne.
He attended elementary school in Springville and later graduated from West High School in SLC, UT. He was an active member in the LDS church and served a LDS mission to the West Central State Mission. He married Judith Ann Garrett November, 4, 1966 in the Manti Temple. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. He was employed by NRP and later Ash Grove Cement for 20 years. He was always a hard worker who went the extra mile. He loved working outdoors in his garden and in his wood shop. He spent many hours farming.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Nephi; children, Janice (Mike) Crank of Idaho Falls; Mike Higginson of Nephi; Denise (Troy) Christensen of Spanish Fork; Diane (Mark) Mecham of Idaho Falls; Jeana Higginson, Bret Higginson both of Nephi; six grandchildren; two sisters, Gayle Cloward of Wells, UT and Ellen Dutson of Mona; mother, Edna Nielson. Preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the Nephi 3rd Ward, 345 East 500 North. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
Dick Seal
1917-2009
“Dick” Wright Coleman Seal, age 91, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair surrounded by his wife and many family members, Friday, April 10, 2009, in Nephi.
He was born November 13, 1917 in Treadway, Tennessee, the 3rd child of Walter and Cora Green Seal.
Dick married Susan Lees August 1, 1941 in Panama. She died in 1987. On January 7, 1989 he married Ruby Mackey Garity. They spent 20 wonderful years enjoying each others company.
Dick loved traveling, listening to music, researching genealogy, baking cookies, golfing, and wintering in St. George.
He leaves behind his widow; 2 daughters, Sally Davenport and Marge Bartow; one stepson, Jim (Kim) Garity; 2 step daughters, Pat Bickerstaff and Sandy (Jim) Offret; 1 sister, Rose; 1 brother-in-law, Fred Lees; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Proceeded in death by his parents, his "Little Sweet Granddaughter Valerie, two brothers, and three sisters.
Memorial services were held Friday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Berg Mortuary in Orem. Burial in the Orem City Cemetery with full military rites.
