STERLING SCHOLAR WINNERS • Juab High School had two winners and three runners-up at the Central Utah Sterling Scholar Contest. Each participant put together a portfolio of their work in their category and participated in an interview. Fourteen winners and 28 runners-up were announced April 15, 2008 at the annual Deseret New-KSL Sterling Scholars of Central Utah awards. program held at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. From a field of 110 nominees, each participating high school had at least one winner or runner-up. Outstanding senior from 11 high schools were recognized for their scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Judges from BYU, Dixie State College, Snow College SUU and UVSC reviewed portfolios and judged nominees April 8 in Richfield. Winners and runners-up received cash awards, Sterling Scholar pins, and key chain medallions. They are eligible for scholarships from 16 colleges and universities.
The tribute to teachers and parents was given by Kathleen Finlinson, Delta, last year’s winner in General Scholarship. Four Music nominees performed during the awards program.
Millard High School had the most winners with four. Delta Juab and Manti had two winners each. North Sanpete, South Sevier, Richfield and Wayne had one winner each.
Manti had the most runners-up with seven. Millard, Delta, Juab, North Sanpete and Richfield had three runners-up each. North Sevier and two runner-up. South Sevier, Wayne, Piute and Gunnison Valley each had one runner-up.
