AND THE AWARD GOES TO • Juab High School Region Sterling Scholar winner and runners-up were, left to right: Aubree Nielsen, runner-up, General Scholarship; Hilary Hitchcock, winner, Family and Consumer Science; Erin Evans, runner-up, English; and Roger Thorpe, runner-up, Science. Participating schools included Piute, Richfield, North Sevier, South Sevier, North Sanpete, Wayne, Manti, Gunnison Valley, Delta, Millard, Juab, and West Desert.

Students from the Region were honored April 4, 2006 during the thirty-fourth annual Deseret News/KSL Sterling Scholars of Central Utah. The event was held at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

Nominees were judged March 28 in Richfield. Judges were provided by Utah Valley State College, Brigham Young University, Southern Utah University and Snow College. A total of 115 scholars competed in 14 different categories for cash awards and scholarships offered by 15 institutions of higher learning.

The 2006 winners and runners-up in each category are as follow:

Visual Arts. Winner, Leslie Freitas, North Sevier. Runners-up: Brittany Arnoldsen, Manti, and Lauren Durrant, Richfield.

Trade and Technical Education. Winner, Katrina Christensen, North Sanpete. Runners-up: Nickolas Thompson, Delta, and Justin Wayman, Manti.

Business and Marketing Education. Winner, Shanna McEntire. Runners-up: Jacob Anderson, Manti, and Leslie Nixon, Millard.

Family and Consumer Sciences. Winner, Hilary Hitchcock, Juab. Runners-up: Kari Sanderson, Millard, and Heather Naylor, Gunnison Valley.

Dance. Winner, Rebekah Armstrong, Manti. Runners-up: Sarah Scott, Delta, and Asher Larsen, Millard.

Computer and Information Technology. Winner, Zachary Morin, North Sanpete. Runners-up: Jared Lyman, North Sevier, and Koby S. Willis, Piute.

Social Science. Winner, Paul Fife, Manti. Runners-up: Kelly Chappell, Wayne, and Sarah Lyman, Richfield.

English and Literature. Winner, Kammie Shields, Millard. Runners-up: Erin Evans, Juab, and Camilla Olsen, Manti.

Foreign Language. Winner, Robert Whitmore, Richfield. Runners-up: Christie Petersen, Delta, and Chaunte Watts, Millard.

Mathematics. Winner, Andrew Hurd, Richfield. Runners-up: Kendell J. Fowler, North Sanpete, and Priscilla Thompson, Millard.

Science. Winner, Lynsie Chapman, Delta. Runners-up: Roger Thorpe, Juab, and Denton Whipple, Wayne.
