Four compressed marijuana bales were found at the
scene of an accident on Sunday, April 3, 2005.
Hoby Metz, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt., said the accident
occurred at 4:30 p.m. on I-15 in the southbound lane of
travel at Mile Marker 210.5.
"A conventional semi pulling a flatbed trailer loaded
with a dump truck and a back hoe wrecked on the freeway,"
said Metz.
The company name on the tractor trailer unit was Reyes
Trucking from Far West.
"The semi gradually left the roadway to the right and
went down a steep embankment," said Metz. "The trailer broke
away from the 5th wheel and overturned."
Metz said the tractor continued into the cedar or
juniper trees and came to a stop. The dump truck and back
hoe separated from the trailer.
"The dump truck had a wooden box constructed on its
bed and it had broken open. There were approximately 250
pounds of marijuana in four compressed bales which had been
inside the box."
The driver left the scene and was not apprehended.
UHP Trooper Charlie Ray Wilson, who investigated the
accident, along with the UHP drug task force are continuing
with the investigation, Metz said.
