  • Problems with loose dogs in Mona persist, result in another child bitten

In spite of the good work the Juab County Sheriff's Office is doing to ticket those offenders who allow their dogs to run loose on the streets of Mona, there continues to be a problem with dogs.
Jeff Smith, council member, said that another child had been bitten by a dog.
He said that the girl had been bitten by a german shepherd which was running at large.
"The dog was euthanized," said Smith.
He said this was the second time the dog owners had had to have one of their dogs put down because it had bitten a child. The previous situation happened just a few weeks ago.
"Both of the dog bites were reported and the dog owners went to court," said Smith. "Judge Sharla Williams said that enough was enough."
Smith said that the city did have a leash law which meant that the dog owners must have their dogs on a leash or that they must be confined.
When the animal is off-premises, it must be on a leash.
A dog at large is defined as one who is off the owner's property unaccompanied or not on a leash that would put him in control of his owners.
He hoped the word would get around the city and people who were not controlling their dogs would be aware of the illegality of allowing them to run loose.
"I would like to thank our peace officers for their work in trying to help by ticketing owners of dogs who are running at large," said Smith.
