He was a life-long resident of Nephi until his last failing years when he resided at the Beehive Home in American Fork, Utah. He was educated in the Nephi schools where he loved and actively participated in sports.
On December 4, 1942 he was called to fight in World War II. He served over 3 years in the 84th Railsplitter Division of the armed forces stationed in England, France, and finally Germany fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Dean was still in the service, and home on leave, when he married his high school sweetheart Helen Karren Winter June 1, 1945 in the Manti Temple.
Dean's love and ability in sports drove him to play on the Nephi team of the Central Utah Baseball League. His team won the 1948 Central Utah Championship. He was a member of a bowling league, loved hunting and fishing and in his later years enjoyed watching sports on TV, rarely missing a Jazz game. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed kidding and teasing those who cared for him.
Dean worked all his life as an agent for trucking companies stationed in Nephi; Rio Grand Motor Ways, Salt Lake Kanab and Palmer Brothers. His employment span for 43 years till he retired in 1989. He served faithfully for 38 years on the Nephi City Volunteer Fire Department.
Dean's greatest love was his wife children and grandchildren. He was a kind and loving husband and caring father. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also proud of their accomplishments. He will be greatly missed, but we are comforted in knowing that he is with his eternal companion and family again.
