
Nine young women will vie for the title of Miss Nephi 2008 on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Juab Junior High Auditorium. Admission is Adults $5.00; Children 3 and under free.
Taleah Belliston, 16, is the daughter of Karl and Rachael Belliston. She is a sophomore at Juab High School. She will be reading a poem entitled “Friends” that she wrote herself. Taleah enjoys playing the violin, backpacking and serving as the Young Women’s president. For her community service project, Taleah volunteered with Youth and Family with Promise where she helped make blankets for the Women and Children’s Shelter in Nephi and participated with the group’s Family Nigh Out events. She would like to serve as a mentor when she is a Junior and deliver toys to children at Primary Children’s Hospital.
Krystal Thorpe, 17, is the daughter of Kirk and Andrea Thorpe. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will perform a contemporary dance duet to “The Noose” by A Perfect Circle. Her community service project was Science for Kids. Krystal participates in drill team, track, golf, National Honor Society, Science Sterling Scholar and she enjoys rock climbing.
Amy Johnson, 18, is the daughter of Alex and Peggy Johnson. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will give an athletic presentation. Her community service project, “Stranger Danger”, Amy worked with local law enforcement to make child identification packets with finger printing for area youth. Amy has been involved with HOSA, FBLA, National Honor Society, softball, FFA, GAA, Youth Court, and served as an officer in many of those organizations. She has also served as Beehive President and Seminary President.
McCall Taylor, 17, is the daughter of Robbie and Tiffany Taylor. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will perform a lyrical ballet on pointe to the song “Only Hope” by Mandy Moore. Her community service projects included a book/magazine/movie drive for health care centers, donating a tree to the Christmas Festival to raise money for Sub-4-Santa, collected stuffed animals and art supplies for Women and Children’s Center, and high school recycling paper project. Her platform is Family Financial Problems. McCall is involved with the National Honor Society, Chorus, drill team, track, cross country , has participated in high school musicals, served in multiple Young Women’s presidencies, and is an assistant dance teacher at Nebo Dance Academy.
Katie Baker, 16, is the daughter of Philip and Ann Baker. She is a junior at Juab High School. She will be performing a violin solo entitled “Stones’ Rag”. Her community service projects included visiting families with relatives in the military, gathering and sending stuffed animals to kids in Iraq, and making quilts, baby crib wall hangings, ABC coloring books, hygiene kits, and schools kits for Humanitarian Aid. Katie is involved with track and YFP mentoring.
Mekel Adair, 18, is the daughter of John and Judy Adair. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will perform a jazz dance to “Candyman” by Christina Aguilera. Her community service projects included a Science Day, Make a Difference Day, mentoring in Youth and Family with Promise, and teaching kids the importance of dental health. She is involved in drill team, track, school musicals, and YFP mentor.
Aubrey Ballow, 17, is the daughter of Brad and Betty Ballow. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will perform a piano solo entitled “Raging Storm” by Melody Bober. Her community service project, Happy Healthy Hearts, included fitness and learning to live happy lives for youth. She assisted with volleyball camp, YFP programs, helping disabled and autistic children with signing and activities, and Green Eyes in Africa fundraiser. Aubrey is involved with YFP mentoring, HOSA, volleyball, softbnall, and basketball. She has served as Laurels President and Senior class Activities Manager.
Kristal Howarth, 17, is the daughter of Steven and Kerry Howarth. She is a junior at Juab High School. She will perform a piano solo entitled “Sea Winds” by Melody Bober. Her community service project involved donating stuffed animals to the ambulance (“Care Bears”), reading with elementary students, entertained at care center with 1st grade students, and helped girl with cheer tryouts. Kristal is involved in cheerleading and FBLA.
Kelsi Andersen, 18, is the daughter of Kelly and Koye Andersen. She is a senior at Juab High School. She will be performing a ballroom dance routine “Sing, Sing, Sing” with her partner Brandon Kay. Her community service project included educating youth in Tina Squire’s health class at the high school on the dangers of drug addictions and eating disorders. She is involved with softball, volleyball, cheerleading, track and dance.
