Ina Kay
Savina (Ina) Rowe Kay, age 91, passed away March 19. 2004
at her home in Mona, Utah.
She was born June 29, 1912 in Springville, Utah, to John
Louis Burton and Hazel May Slade. She was raised as a foster
daughter of Allen (Illiniah) and Hannah Swasey Rowe. She
married Claude Maurice Kay Sr. April 28, 1932 in Manti Utah.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He died Feb. 9, 1981
She was active in church and civic affairs, serving in
numerous church callings. She served as a missionary in
Indiana in her 70's. She was active in the 4-H and a member
of the DUP. She was instrumental in the founding of the DUP
Museum in Nephi.
She is survived by her children, Claude Maurice
(Kathleen) Kay Jr. of Mona, Ellis Dee (Georgie) Kay of South
Jordan, and Margo Ann Taylor of Mona; 16 grandchildren and
42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son,
Warren Hal Kay; great-grandson, Cameron Troy Kay.
Funeral services were held March 23, 2004 in the Mona LDS
Chapel. Interment in the Mona Cemetery.
William Sperry
William LaMont Sperry, age 77, passed away March 20, 2004
in Nephi, Utah, from complication of Pneumonia and stroke.
He was born October 12, 1926 in Nephi to William George and
Marion LaPreal Goble Sperry. He married Elizabeth Kay
February 22, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple.
He graduated from Juab High School and attended Snow
College. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII in the
South Pacific, China and Japan. He coached Little League for
30 years. He was a church softball and basketball coach. He
was a member of the East Juab Bowling Association, American
Legion and Lions Club. He retired from the U.S. Postal
Service after 30 years. He was active in the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He
enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and all sports.
He is survived by his wife, Beth of Nephi; children,
Steve (Alicia) Sperry of Grand Junction, Colorado, Linette
(Mike) Smith, and Linda (Mark) Greenhalgh, all of Nephi; 11
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Max
(Marva) Sperry of Salt Lake City, Ted (Nancy) Sperry, and
Jack Sperry, all of Nephi, and Ken (Kathy) of Cedar City. He
was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen; son,
Kay LaMont; daughter, Elizabeth; grandson, Wes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March
24, 2004 in the Nephi 8th Ward, 222 South 100 East. Friends
may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment in the Mona Cemetery.
Gretchen Tabeling
Gretchen Louise Simpson Tabeling, age 40, passed away
March 21, 2004 as the result of a automobile accident in
Utah County.
She was born March 15, 1964 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to
Michael Grant Simpson and Caroline Fette.
She is survived by her sister, Inger (Mark) Oveson of
Nephi; a brother, Michael Paul Simpson; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday, March
24, 2004 in the Nephi 5th Ward, 345 E 500 N. Friends may
call one hour prior to the services. Interment in the Oveson
Family Cemetery.
