Chad Brough, mayor, arrived at Nephi City Council in time
to discuss one item of business concerning the city's
cemeteries and then to attend the executive session planned
for the end of the meeting.
Brough said there was a local lady who liked to walk her
dogs in the cemetery at night. Someone had suggested that
there was a city ordinance prohibiting dogs from running in
the cemetery just as there was in the city park.
"She said if there was an ordinance prohibiting her
taking her dogs to the cemetery at night," said Brough,
"then there should be a sign posted stating that it was not
allowed."
Such signs, the lady told him, were usually posted at
city parks and other places where dogs were not allowed.
Brough asked if the city staff could research the
question and find out if the dogs can visit the park with
their owners, if they have to be on a leash if they do, and
if their owners have to clean up any messes they might make
when they do visit.
"Some people in the community might not like the idea of
what dogs might do on one of their loved ones' graves," he
said.
Many people try to keep their family grave sites clean,
well-tended and attractive because of respect for those who
have died.
