2000 JUAB SCD ELECTION
A Soil Conservation District (SCD) is a subdivision of
state government, classified as a dependent special
district. Its purpose is to enhance and protect private
land and water resources. Long term soil and water
protection has public benefits thus all levels of
government offer support to SCD programs. A 5-member
board of elected citizens, Supervisors, governs its SCD.
Supervisors serve 4-year terms of office. They give local
direction and priority to their SCD programs. Board
decisions are made in meetings open to the public.
Elections are in progress to fill 3 Supervisor
positions on the Juab SCD board. Candidates were selected
locally by a nominating committee. The balloting process
for the Juab SCD election has been extended. It was found
that many people on the mailing list did not receive a
ballot during the January mailing. Ballots are mailed to
private agricultural land owners or operators listed with
the Utah Soil Conservation Commission (USCC). Any
registered Utah voter, or private ag land owner/manager
not on the list, may vote by requesting a ballot. The
USCC and the UT Dept. of Agriculture and Food direct and
conduct the elections.
SCD ballot request forms are available from your SCD
chair, Co. USU Extension office, USDA Service Center,
County Clerk; writing USCC, Box 146500, SLC, Utah
84114-6500; calling 801-538-7120; fax 801-538-7126;
E-mail to agmain.cgriffin@state.ut.us, or on the internet
at http://www. ag.state.ut.us. A completed form must be
to the USCC office by April 12, 2000. Returned ballots
must be postmarked by April 21, 2000, the close of the
elections. A person must vote in one of two consecutive
SCD elections to remain on the voter list.
Candidates are:
Lynn J. Esplin - Nephi
Tom C. Goble - Nephi
