Irene Howard
Irene Olpin Howard, age 86, passed away Feb. 23, 2000,
in Nephi, Utah.
She was born Nov. 5, 1913, in Nephi to Joseph
William and Fanny Wilkey Olpin. She married Theodore
(Bob) Howard May 2, 1935, in Nephi. Their marriage was
later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple May 12, 1964. He
died April 23, 1987.
She was a member of the LDS Church serving in many
positions throughout her life. She was involved in
singing groups and loved singing in quartets, and with
the Juab Stake Singing Mothers.
She is survived by two sons, Max L. (Jean) Howard,
and Thomas (Cindy) Howard; 11 grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son,
Richard and eight brothers, and sisters, Lynn, Walter,
Ellen, Clyde, Eva, Bert, Harold, and Earl.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28, 2000, in the
Nephi LDS 8th Ward. Burial in Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi,
Utah.
Raymond Houghton
Raymond Edward Houghton, age 90, died Feb. 23, 2000,
in Brigham City, Utah, of causes incident to age.
Raymond was born Jan. 2, 1910, to Thomas Edward
Houghton and Lillian Maud Newell in Mona, Utah. He
married Melda Pearl Howell on May 19, 1930, in Nephi. The
marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Melda preceded him in death in 1991.
Raymond served in the Army during World War II. He
loved music, livestock, and the outdoors. He worked for
the BLM, U.S. Forest Service, and Juab County retiring in
1975.
He is survived by two daughters, Lawana H. Bateman
of Nephi, and Judy H. (John) Ellertson of Brigham City;
two foster sons, Richard (Marie) Howell of Mapleton, and
Grant (Gay) Howell of Helper; one brother, Clark Eugene
Houghton of Las Vegas, Nevada; 9 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; 10 foster grandchildren; 22 foster
great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and
one foster great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death
by his wife, parents, six sisters, one brother, and one
grandson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 26, 2000, in the
Nephi Stake Center. Burial in Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi,
Utah.
Theodore Garrett Brown
Theodore Garrett Brown, age 76, passed away Feb.
24, 2000, in Nephi, Utah.
He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Nephi to Orson E. and
H. Dellis Garrett Brown. He married Phyllis Mary Blackham
June 10, 1959, in Ely, Nevada. The marriage was later
solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He was raised and spent almost all his entire life
in Nephi. He served in WW II in the Army in South
America. He was an Auto Mechanic and worked for Thermoid,
Gates and NRP. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed
hunting, fishing, trap shooting, fly tying and camping.
He was a charter member of the Nephi Gun Club and he
loved to read.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Nephi;
children, Deputy Mary Elizabeth Brown of Salt Lake City,
and Margaret (Travis) Steward of Provo; 5 grandchildren;
and sister, Elon Taylor of Pleasant Grove. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Green.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28, 2000, in the
Nephi LDS 5th Ward. Burial in Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi,
Utah.
