Donald J. Eyre, St.
Donald Jones Eyre, Sr., age 82, passed away Feb. 7, 2003
in Provo, Utah, from complications following heart
surgery.
He was born June 21, 1920 to James Alma and Hazel
Leona Jones Eyre in Adamsville, Utah. He married Winagene
Church Sept. 9, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He attended elementary school in a one room school in
Adamsville and graduated from Beaver High School. He
attended Utah State University for one year and joined the
Army and served from 1941 until 1946 and was a member of the
reserves from 1946 to 1953. He served in North Africa,
Sicily and Italy during WWII and attained the rank of First
Lieutenant. He graduated from the University of Utah in
1949. He owned and operated retail and wholesale petroleum
businesses in Juab, Sanpete and southern Utah Counties for
40 years.
Active in local government in Nephi, he served as a
city councilman and was mayor from 1974 to 1978 and was on
the hospital board and planning and zoning commissions.
Through membership in the Lion's Club he helped with many
civic service projects and enjoyed the fellowship of social
activities with the club. In his retirement years he was
proud of his vegetable gardens and loved to play golf and
meet with his buddies at the local gathering places and
attended activities when his grandchildren participated. He
was an avid TV sports fan.
An active member of the LDS church, serving in
executive positions in the Young Men's organizations and
Sunday School, and as a High Priest Group leader and as a
member of the High Council.
He is survived by his wife and six children, Donald J.
(Marcia) Eyre, Jr., Brent (Sheryl) Eyre, Steven (Sylvia)
Eyre, James (Candy) Eyre, Lorilee (Mark) Hoyt, and Lisa
(Chad) Brough; 24 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren;
one brother James (Ranee) Eyre and one sister, Revou
Carter.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11, 2003 in the Nephi
3rd Ward. Interment in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
Ethel Russell
Ethel Eunice Dwight Russell, age 81, of Las Vegas,
Nevada, and former 30-year resident of Eureka, Utah, died
Feb. 1, 2003 at the St. Rose Hospital in Las Vegas. She was
born July 30, 1921 in Elkart, Kansas, to Norman and Myrtle
Jane Coutice Dwight. She married Harold Theodore Russell
Aug. 3, 1943 in Las Vegas. He died March 26, 1992.
She was a homemaker most of her life but worked ten
years for the U.S. Forest Service in Glenwood Springs,
Colorado, as an accounting technician. She was a member of
the Methodist Church and enjoyed doing crafts.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Russell of
Anchorage, Alaska, Harry (Russ) Russell of Puyallup,
Washington, Jeanine (Dale) Spiers of Las Vegas, Nevada; 7
grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her brothers and
sisters, George (Thelma) Dwight, Frank (Beverly) Dwight,
Bessie (Marshall) Downey, Pearl Eiland, all of Colorado; and
Ruth (Wayne) Caple, of Texas.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 7, in the
Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, Orem. Burial in East Lawn
Memorial Hills Cemetery.
Marvin Thompson
Marvin James Thompson died Jan. 31, 2003 at the Utah
Valley Regional Hospital in Provo at the age of 49. He was
born in Hawthorne, Nevada on January 12, 1954, to Melvin and
LaVenna Thompson.
He served in the Marine Corps and the Utah National
Guard. He loved rodeo and held the championship title in
saddle bronc riding. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing,
hunting and camping. One of his favorite hobbies was dutch
oven cooking.
He is survived by his wife Jill Thompson; three sons,
Shane Thompson of Kingman, Arizona, Lonnie Thompson, and
Wade Thompson, both of Nephi; his mother, LaVenna Thompson
of Nephi; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two
brothers, Rod (Kathy) Thompson, Clint Thompson of Orem; and
two sisters, Carolyn (Don) Massey, and Linda (John) Sheets,
all of Nephi. He was preceded in death by his father Melvin
and sister Colleen Thompson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003
at the Wing Mortuary in Lehi. Interment was at the Lehi City
Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
Linda Olson
Memorial service for Linda Olson to be held in Mona
Linda Kay Dickerson Olson, of Mona, Utah, passed away
with on Feb. 7, 2003 at Utah Valley Hospital of
pneumonia.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1956. She married Douglas
Dalton and later divorced. She married Troy Olson on July
16, 1993. She has lived in Provo, Orem, Payson, Nephi and
Mona. She attended schools in Orem and Provo. She enjoyed
hunting, fishing and the outdoors. She was employed at
R&R Manufacturing at the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband of Mona; three
daughters, Jennifer L. (Marty) Ingraham of Nephi, Angelina
K. (Ben) Anderson of Cedar City, and Melissa Sue Dalton of
Mona; parents, Ronald and Helen Jensen of Provo; three
granddaughters; two sisters, Carla (Joe) Luzar of Gooding,
Idaho, and Bonnie (Tom) Prentice of Pleasant Grove. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Janet.
A memorial service will be held in the Mona Ward
Chapel, 65 East 100 North, on Feb. 13, 2003 at 1:30 p.m.
Viewing begins at 12:30. A trust fund has been set up in her
name at Far West Bank.
