Harlow Pexton
Harlow W. Pexton, age 80, died Feb. 22, 2002, in St.
George, Utah. He was born in Nephi, Utah, July 18, 1921, to
Jude N.C. and Alda Elizabeth Pyper Pexton. He married
Blanche Olene Christensen in the Manti Temple on July 26,
1940.
He served in the Army during WWII. He was a former Nephi
City Councilman, and former Mayor of Nephi. Nephi City
Justice Court Judge for 17 years. Associated with his
father, brother and sons in Pexton Wholesale Co. for over 60
years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, serving in many capacities including 10
years as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Blanche; sons,
James H. (Jane) of Payson, W. Leon (Monna Lee) of Nephi,
Richard L. of Salt Lake City, Annette (Jeff) Johnson of
Boise, Idaho, and sister Renee Bench of Salt Lake City; 14
grandchildren: and 28 great-grandchildren. His son, Douglas
Howard and grandson Douglas Michael, his parents and his
brothers and sisters Munro, Clarence, Marian and Margaret
preceded him in death.
Services were held at the Nephi Stake Center on Feb. 26,
2002. Burial in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
DeVere Johnson
DeVere Mozart Johnson, age 92, died Feb. 21, 2002. DeVere
was born in Fountain Green, Utah, on Jan. 31, 1910, the
third of nine children to George Frank, and Olena Larsen
Johnson.
He attended school in Fountain Green and Moroni, but
received his real education working on the family farm. On
March 16, 1934, DeVere married Geraldine Allred. Their
marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on May
21, 1966.
DeVere herded and sheared sheep for many years. He worked
for the Sugar Beet factory in Gunnison, the Sanpete County
Road Department, the Forest Service, and Nephi Rubber
Products, and owned and operated his own dairy.
He enjoyed watching the youth of the community
participating in baseball and softball, and riding
horses.
DeVere was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints and sang in the Ward Choir for many years.
He spent many years on the board and as president of the
Fountain Green Irrigation Company, and was a lifetime member
of the Fountain Green Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine; 3
children, daughter Gayle of St. George, and sons Steven
(Kathy) Johnson, and Greg (Sandy) Johnson of Fountain Green;
12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1
great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Newell Johnson of Provo,
and Aden (Royce) Johnson of Moroni; 2 sisters, Twyla (Lee)
Anderson of Fountain Green, and Hanna Sanderson of Bingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, LaVelle
Johnson, sisters, Athalie Bailey, Lenna Larsen, and Indra
Barney.
Funeral services were held Feb. 25, 2002, in the Fountain
Green LDS chapel. Internment was in the Fountain Green
Cemetery.
Chloe Keele
Chloe Pearl Baldwin Keele, age 99, died Feb. 22, 2002, at
Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi. She was born Feb.
20, 1903, in Fillmore, Utah, to James William and Irene
Brunson Baldwin. She married Charles Uel Keele Nov. 28,
1921, in Parowan, Utah. She was an active member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by 8 children, Eula (Jack W.) Howard of
Nephi, Bonnie (Lee) James, Carol (David) Watson, all of Salt
Lake City, Ilene Buckley, Vance (Shirley) Keele, all of
Tooele, Lola (Clarence) Matheny of Loveland, Colorado, Lloyd
(Dawnetta) Keele, Don (Starla) Keele, all of Fillmore; 41
grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; 32
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Charles; parents and siblings; 2 grandsons, Chris
and Thomas Matheny; and 1 great-grandson, Corie Ray
Henrie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002,
at 1 p.m. in the Fillmore Stake Center, 21 South 300 West.
Friends may call from 11-12:30 p.m. at the church prior to
services. Interment in the Fillmore City Cemetery.
