TORCH RUN • left, Mariann Gibson, editor
of The Times-News one of seven torch bearers to
carry the torch last Tuesday, February 5th.
Crowds estimated at between 5,000 to 15,000
lined the torch route to welcome the Olympic
flame. The other 6 runners from our area were
Mike Brown, Kate Bates, Leonard Trauntvein,
JaNell Stephenson, Gina Taylor and Iris
Tolley.

Steve Bennion, Southern Utah
University President, began the Olympic
Torch Relay in Nephi. His segment
started at the Welcome to Nephi sign at
the east entrance into Nephi.

Cold temperatures did not deter the
enthusiasm of these young Torch Relay
fans. Wrapped in warm blankets, they
were ready to cheer and be part of this
historic event.
