  • Mona City makes small addition to gas shut off policy

Natural gas was still a topic of discussion at Mona on Tuesday.

Seth Atkinson, Nephi City Administrator, had to cancel his appointment with the Mona City Council.

The scheduled topic was an open discussion on the natural gas line.

Instead, Bill Mills, mayor, asked if the council would back him in adding to the city gas shut-off policy.

“I would like it to read that before turning the gas back on,” said Mills, “the order must be signed by an adult.”

That way, he said, the city could make certain that there was no explosion or fire as a result of the restoration and that all pilot lights were turned back on.

Michelle Dalton, city secretary/treasurer, said that those whose service is disrupted for lack of payment are notified when the natural gas service is turned off.

In addition, the crew doing the restoration of the service has made certain that a responsible adult was present.

“We don’t go in the home and light the furnace,” she said. “We don’t go in and light the pilot lights.”

Mills said that was good because the city was not liable if something went wrong.

Nephi City aids Mona in all natural gas repairs and assists with some connections, he said.

“We put in the meters,” said Mills.

The council supported Mills in his request and Dalton will make certain that there is a signature line on the restoration order for the future.
