Alden Dudley Swasey
1924-2008


Alden Dudley Swasey, age 84, passed away at the home of his son in Price, Utah, on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. He was born on March 19, 1924 in Mona, Utah, to Dudley and Jennie Scott Swasey. He married the love of his life, Afton Haws on November 15, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Alden worked on the family farm until 1946, he then moved to Dragerton, Utah, “East Carbon City” and was employed by US Steel and worked at the Horse Canyon Mine for 39 years. He held various positions there, he was a mechanic, electrician, track foreman, fire boss, section foreman, and day shift general mine foreman. He loved the guys he worked with and would do anything for them.
He was educated in the Mona and Nephi, Utah schools, he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served as 2nd counselor and Bishop of Wellington 1st Ward. He was a counselor in the High Priests Quorum, a scout leader and went on a full time mission with his beloved wife to Honduras. After returning home, 6 months later they went on another full time mission to Mexico, where they both had to learn a new language. Alden served as a temple worker for a year in the Las Vegas temple district. He served a two year custodial mission at Warm Springs recreational area, which he loved very much. He got to swim everyday.
He worked for 7 years on a pistachio farm for a doctor in Moapa, NV. He grew two gardens every year while he was there. He lived by his motto: Early to bed, early to rise. He loved gardening and had a green thumb. It was said, “When Alden starts getting into the garden, it's time to start planting.” He was a hard working man and did a lions share of work. He loved to fish, hunt, and camp with his family. He followed his sons through little league and pony league baseball and he was a coach and assistant coach for their team. He loved watching the Jazz and Saint Louis Cardinals and was an avid fan. He joined coast to coast camp and traveled to different camps with many friends for two years and had a lot of fun. He loved playing cards and eating ice cream. He liked his goats and goat milk. He liked honest hard working people, and loved to hear little children sing. He would encourage his little grandchildren to sing to him. He liked to tease. There wasn't too much he disliked. He believed there was good in everyone.
He is survived by his wife, Afton, of 65 years; daughter, Darleen (Stan) Larson; son, Steve (Annette) Swasey; daughter, Sandra (Dennis) Behling; son, Roger (Sylvia) Swasey; son, Larry (Colleen) Swasey; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all four of his sisters; and all four of his brothers; daughter-in-law, Lana Swasey; and grandson Matthew Swasey.
He was the last of his generation. His dad was the baby of a big family and Dad was the baby of his family.
Funeral services were Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Price LDS 3rd ward chapel (303 West 500 South). Interment in the Wellington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.


Forrest G. Anderson
1928-2008


Forrest Glenn Anderson passed away peacefully on December 31, 2008 in Provo, Utah, of complications from lung cancer. He was anxiously awaiting New Years Eve with his sweetheart Doris.
Forrest was born on June 22, 1928 in Fountain Green, Utah, to Arthur Glenn and Theora Christine Christensen Anderson. He learned hard work at an early age. He helped his father herd sheep, he thinned beets, worked in the coal mines, helped in farming, and worked at service stations throughout southern Utah. He graduated from Moroni High School in 1946. He met his wife Doris Coleen Lund while she worked at First Security Bank and he worked at the Conoco service station in Nephi. They were married March 20, 1953 in Fountain Green, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on September 26, 1981. She passed away February 25, 1994.
Forrest served in many capacities. He was President of the Flying Club, President of the Nephi Junior Chamber of Commerce, served as Nephi City Councilman for 8 years, State delegate for 4 years, Vice Chairman of the Utah Municipal Power Agency, taught Scouting for 15 years and recently  received the “James E. West Fellow” award for his scouting service. He was a charter member of the Juab County Search and Rescue and Sheriff’s Patrol volunteering his time and services for 42 years, making life-long friends along the way. He was an independent jobber for Sinclair Oil for 48 years. He is well known for driving his green gas truck throughout Juab, Millard, Utah, and Sanpete Counties. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many positions, most recently a teacher in the High Priests for 13 years. He was happiest spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was awaiting the arrival of three more great-grandchildren to be born this year.
He is survived by his children, Julie (Bill) Painter of South Jordan; Jeff of Nephi; Jana (Mike) Keith of Mona; Joni (Tom) Bott of Woodland Hills; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wendell (Carol) of Kearns; Merril (Cherrill) of South Jordan; sister, Dorothy (Max) Ostler of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 41 years Doris Anderson, brother Clair, sister Mary Peel and her husband Perry, and his grandson Michael Glenn Anderson. He leaves behind many dear friends, associates, and customers whom he thought dearly of.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 in the Nephi Stake Center, 351 N. 100 W. Interment in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.


Iona Sperry Bailey
1925-2009


Devona Iona Hansen Sperry Bailey, age 83, passed away January 3, 2009 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born February 6, 1925 in Elberta, Utah, to Clarence Willard and Etta May Jensen Hansen and raised in Fountain Green, Utah. She married Kenneth John (K.J.) Sperry December 22, 1942 in the Manti Temple. He died May 12, 1987. She married Jack LeRoy Bailey August 17, 1991.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ serving in many areas of the church including Relief Society President. She was employed as a telephone operator and worked in several businesses in the Nephi area. She actively served in the community with her husband, K.J.  Iona will always be revered as a caring, loving, classy and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survived by her husband, Jack; daughters, Patricia—Pat (Jim) Fischio, Murray; Marsha—Bunny (Fred) Parkin, Holladay; Jan (Dennis) Holland,West Jordan; Jill (John) Allred, LaVerkin; and son Craig (Mary Lou) Sperry, Nephi; 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kay (Margaret) Hansen, Murray and Gordon Hansen, Sandy and sisters-in-law Norma Hansen, Ogden, Dorothy Neilsen, Mona and Nancy (Neil) Sherwood, Salem, Oregon. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Willard and sisters Jessie Sudweeks and Jewel Goble, sister-in-law, Betty Hardman Harris.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, January 9, 2009 in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 N. 400 E., Nephi. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W. 300 N. and at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.


Larue Christiansen Shaw
1928-2008


Larue Christiansen Shaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Larue was born on June 17, 1928 in Fountain Green, Utah, to Roy O. and Cleo Estella Crowther. She grew up a middle child with an older brother Kenner, and a younger sister Royce. She cherished a large extended family of cousins, aunts, and uncles and looked forward each year to the annual Crowther get-togethers.
After graduating from Moroni High School, she attended LDS Business College where she was at the top of her class in her Shorthand and Type classes. She retired from First Security Bank after serving 13 years as a Secretary/Teller.
Larue married A. Dean Shaw on June 10, 1949, in the Manti Temple. Together they made a loving home in Nephi, where they raised their three children. Keeping a clean, organized home and taking wonderful care of her husband and children was always top priority for her. She loved to get the entire family together where she could spoil her eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mom was happiest when her family was gathered around her.
Larue loved music, had a beautiful voice, and sang in a quartet for many years. She served faithfully in many church callings. She and Dean loved serving together as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple.
Larue loved to travel with Dean; they went on many memorable trips and cruises. Her favorite was a family Caribbean Cruise in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mom, grandma, we love you and will be forever grateful for your example of love, service and enduring to the end.
Larue was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her children: Chris (DeRay) Sudweeks, Taylorsville, SuzAnne (Russ) Farrer, Springville and Curt (Sheila) Shaw, Genola; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a brother and sister, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our family expresses appreciation to Dr. Grant Rasmussen for his gentle care and to those employees at The Courtyard at Jamestown Square and CareSource who served her with love and dignity. We also express our appreciation to Anderson Funeral Home, Bishop Roy Ward and the Nephi 2nd Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service to our family.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 7, 2008 at the Nephi 2nd Ward, 222 S. 100 E.  Friends may call from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Interment, Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.


Margaret T. Williams
1922-2009


Margaret Tolley Williams, age 86, passed away January 2, 2009 in Provo, Utah, at the Utah Valley Medical Center.
She was born May 13, 1922 in Nephi, Utah, to Claude Merle and Verlie Morris Tolley. She married George Wesley (Ches) Williams March 14, 1946 in the Manti Temple. He died February 28, 2004.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in the Primary and Relief Society and was a visiting teacher. She was active in community service.
Survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Peterson of West Jordan; Marian (Bryce) Lynn of Mona; Gayle (Calvin) Wright of Nephi; Barbara (Dennis) Jensen of Salem; 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; sister, Melba Cazier of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack, Glen, and Kenneth; sister Florence; grandchildren, Lynette and Chase.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the Nephi Stake Center, 351 N. 100 W. Interment in the Nephi City Cemetery.
