Juab School District Board of Education has agreed to
appoint a member to the East Juab Recreation Association
(EJRA) Board but did ask for time to discuss the appointment
before naming a member.
Neal Menlove, who has been visiting cities through-out
East Juab County seeking board member appointments, asked
that the school board not take too long in making a
decision.
"I am hoping to meet with all the members of the board
fairly soon," he said.
"We will certainly be there," said Leon Pexton, board
president. "Let Superintendent (Kirk) Wright know when the
meeting will be and we will have our representative
there."
Menlove said that he knew there were a lot of
differences of opinion concerning recreation and what was
and was not important to the residents of the county.
Nevertheless, he hoped a board would be able to discuss the
differences and come to some conclusions for the future.
"When it really comes down to it we need to work and
pull together," he said.
Pexton asked if Menlove saw the board as a short-term
organization or a long-term one and what kind of time would
be involved of a member of the board.
At this point, said Menlove, the organization could be
short-term or long-term. Members of the board would need to
make that determination, among others, as they meet.
"As far as longevity is concerned," he said, "I could
see this board being a long term group that would oversee
recreation in the East part of Juab County."
Some of that longevity, of course, would be determined
by the decisions of the board. For example, if the board
agreed that one way to find funding for recreation was to
seek a special service district, then the board would be
determined by the results of the election which would be
needed to allow its creation.
As for now, the board will be non-profit, said
Menlove.
"The organization would be non-binding?" asked Pexton.
"The board members would meet and decide the best course of
action?"
That was correct, said Menlove. He said there had been
a board which was over recreation in Nephi City.
That board had leased the Old Gym and operated it but
the board had been inactive for some time. It was time to
consider some options and the direction that recreation
should take in the future.
"In my opinion, it would be better if all of the
communities worked together," said Menlove.
