  • New Mona officials sworn in

New council members took the oath of office in Mona on Tuesday evening prior to council meeting and were given council assignments following the ceremony.

They were sworn-in by city recorder, Nila Keyte.

Those who will serve on the council for four-year terms will be Harry Sherrill Newell, Rick Schnurr, and Mayor Bryce Lynn.

Those who will serve two year terms will be Darlene Fowkes and Cory Squire.

Doran Kay was the hold-over council member who did not need to seek election this year. His term will expire in January 2004.

Mayor Lynn re-assigned the natural gas department to Kay and removed him as the council person over water. He will continue to represent Mona on the Juab Rural Development Agency and is also the council member over the solid waste collection department.

Fowkes will continue to be the council member over beautification; parks/cemetery/and city office building; and the recreation department. She will also be the chair over all city celebrations.

Schnurr will continue to serve as mayor pro-tem, will represent the council on the planning and zoning commission, and will be over the streets department.

Squire was assigned to be the council representative over the water department, the GIS mapping project, and will sit on the JRDA board.

Newell will be over animal control; the electric department; and the public safety department which includes the First Responders, fire and law enforcement.

Lynn will continue to be over the budget; personnel; will serve as liaison with the city attorney; and will be over building/construction/housing.

City personnel will remain the same. Allen Pay will be the animal control officer for the community; Jeff Boyd will be building official/building inspector; Lorna Squire will be the cemetery sexton; and Denise Pay will be the meter reader.

Rory Nielson will had the planning and zoning commission and will administrate the department; Lorna Squire will be park's superintendent; and Allan Pay will be the water master.

Nila Keyte will be the recorder; Lori Elbert the secretary, and Everd Squire the treasurer.
