Thirty-seven new homes were built in Nephi in 2000.
"That is about the same number of homes that were built
last year," said Chad Brough, mayor. "In fact there have
been about the same number of homes built each year for the
past several years."
Brough said that residents often remark that we have a
lot of new homes in the area and that there are a lot of new
people living in Nephi and the three nearby communities of
Rocky Ridge, Mona, and Levan.
"In spite of the fact that you no longer know everyone
shopping in the grocery store, the growth rate has been
consistent, slow and steady," said Brough.
There hadn't been a big boom like some nearby areas, such
as Payson, had experienced. However, the growth had been
steady.
"There were 14 commercial building permits issued in
2000," said Brough. Two of those were for remodeling, two
were for additions, one was for a re-roofing and three were
for signs for businesses.
The bulk of building permits were purchased by those
residents who wanted to remodel or repair their current
property. The city sold 111 of those permits for everything
from actually remodeling to building a garage, siding a
home, re-roofing, putting up a fence, to finishing a
basement.
