A new school crossing will soon be made on 400 East
Street at the intersection with 200 North.
"The state of Utah establishes the criteria for the
establishment of these crossings as well as the standards
for their installation and operation," said Randy McKnight,
city administrator.
The right to have a crossing guard at a certain location
is established by law made by the Utah State Legislature, he
said. According to the rules set to govern the establishment
of a crossing, the standardized criteria have been met.
The next line of business will be to hire and train a
crossing guard.
"There is a need for a crossing guard at that location,"
said Chad Brough, mayor. "The intersection is heavily
used."
In addition, those who drive their students to the
elementary school, will be assisted in assuring safety for a
student who may, otherwise, run into the street in front of
a moving vehicle.
Currently there is one crossing guard who is on duty at
the intersection of 100 North and 400 East. All those from
the south section of the community are encouraged to make
use of the benefits of crossing at that intersection.
"Nephi Elementary students will, of course, directly
benefit from the crossing guard but so will middle school
and high school students who are walking to the schools."
said McKnight.
The semaphore on the 100 North and Main Street
intersection assists pedestrian students traveling to the
Nephi Elementary from the West side of town.
The new crossing guard will assist students from the
north east section of the community.
