Two Mona Town Council members were sworn into office
on Tuesday evening at the beginning of council meeting.
Nila Keyte, town clerk, administered the oath of
office to Doran Kay, incumbent, and to Glenda Buchanan.
Kay was re-elected to the position on a write-in vote
last November. Buchanan took the position vacated by Rhett
Thalman who did not seek re election.
Mona Mayor Bryce Lynn made assignments to council
members for the coming year.
Lynn will no longer be over solid waste. He assigned
himself to be over the posts of
building/construction/housing and the budget. Both are new
to his jurisdiction this year. Lynn will also continue to be
the liaison with the town attorney and with city
personnel.
Buchanan did not take over the same council
assignments Thalman had with the exception of the law
enforcement category. She will oversee the town's animal
control, the natural gas department, and will sit on the
JRDA (Juab Rural Development Agency) board.
Lynn appointed Rick Schnurr as mayor pro tem, number
one, in Lynn's absence. Kay has held that position in the
past. Schnurr was mayor pro tem number two before the change
and will be over the Planning and Zoning Commission, town
streets, and the electrical department.
Kay will now oversee solid waste disposal, the fire
department, and will sit on the JRDA board as one of two of
the town's representatives. He will continue to be over the
town water department.
Darlene Fowkes will continue to oversee community
beautification, parks/cemetery/town office and
recreation.
Lynn also appointed the following town personnel for
the year 2000. Allen Pay, animal control; building official,
Jeff Boyd; cemetery sexton, Lorna Squire; Clerk, Nila Keyte;
Meter Reader, Denise Pay; Planning and Zoning Chair, Jeff
Boyd; Park's Superintendent, Lorna Squire;
Secretary/Treasurer, Scott Nelson; water master, Allen
Pay.
