Ella Lucile Pierce Shepherd

Ella Lucile Pierce Shepherd, age 85, of Springville (previously of Levan) passed away Jan. 5, 2000 at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah.

She was born March 16, 1914, in Gunnison, Utah, to Orson Harvey and Mary Taysom Pierce. She married Rulon J. Shepherd Dec. 26, 1931. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple May 11, 1963. He died March 27, 1985.

She was a member of the LDS Church and served in the Primary, Relief Society, Ward Library, and as a Visiting Teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by children, Sheril (Quma) Shepherd of Levan, James (Mary Lou) Shepherd of Prichard, Idaho, Gary (Colleen) Shepherd of Taylorsville, Don J. Shepherd of Springville, and Mary Louise (James) Paystrup of Springville; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Ault of American Fork, Faye Allred of Nephi, and Leatrice (John) Sandor of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by a son Melvin and 6

brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Jan. 8, 2000 in the Levan LDS Chapel. Burial in the Levan Cemetery.

 

Gary J. Swenson

Gary J Swenson, age 45, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at his home in Brigham City, Utah.

He was born on March 25, 1954, in Payson, Utah, to Don and Lois Swenson. He grew up in Spanish Fork, working on his father's farm.

Gary married Hanalee Parkin on Sept. 16, 1977, in Nephi. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 25, 1978.

Gary was a member of the LDS Church. He served in the California Central Mission, the Elder's Quorum Presidency, Ward Clerk, teacher in many auxiliaries, and was currently Cub Master.

Gary was a senior principal engineer with Thiokol.

He loved to golf, camp, hike, and fish with his family. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, woodworking and making items for his home.

Surviving are his wife, Hanalee; daughter, Kjersti; son, Geoffrey of Brigham City; parents, Don and Lois Swenson of Spanish Fork; brothers, Hal (Diane) of Farmington, Rick (Michele) of Kaysville, Brad (Maureen) of LaCanada, California, and Ryan of Spanish Fork; and sister, Kay (Bryan) Money of West Jordan.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City LDS 17th Ward Chapel, 139 East 300 North. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

 

Barbara Ann Johnston Weeks

Barbara Ann Johnston Weeks, age 55, died Jan. 8, 2000, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from an aneurysm. She was born Aug. 6, 1944, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Otis Lee Johnston and Ruby Gaddy Johnston. She married Bob Weeks on Aug. 23, 1963, in Broken Arrow.

Barbara worked in her family's turkey farm business, and was active in her church life. She graduated from Catoosa High School and completed her degree in Home Economics at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and collecting.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; 2 sons, Bob Don Weeks of Nephi, and Mat Taylor Weeks of Springfield, Missouri; mother, Ruby A. Johnston of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 2 sisters, Caryol Smith of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Marcella Pense of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Otis Johnston, and a daughter, Tawna Weeks.

Funeral services were held Jan. 11, 2000, in Anthony, Kansas. Interment in Bixby Cemetery, Bixby, Oklahoma.

Stanley Johnson Stevens

Stanley Johnson Stevens, age 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at his home in Fillmore, Utah.

He was born in Fillmore on June 20, 1916, to Hazen Felshaw Stevens and Harriett Johnson. Stan married Afton Critchley on Nov. 30, 1940. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on July 26, 1956.

He was educated in Millard County Schools and enjoyed participating in boxing and football. Stanley was a rancher and a livestock broker. He raised registered quarter horses. He was an Elder in the LDS Church.

He is survived by his three children, Lee Critchley (Ethel) Stevens of Smithfield, Helen Ann (Karl) Carter of Nephi, and Robert Lewis (Deanna) Stevens of Fillmore; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merlin (Georgia) Stevens, and Paul (Greta) Stevens, both of Fillmore; and one sister, Carolyn (Lincoln) Hanks of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and 2 sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in the Fillmore 4th Ward LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Fillmore City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Mortuary Fillmore.
