Juab County Commissioners reviewed the agreement allowing
the county to deed a piece of property to Mona to be used
for a park and then decided to meet with representatives of
the town council before signing the document.
"We need to have a meeting with them before we sign a
document approving the transfer of property from the county
to the town," said Robert Steele, commissioner.
The transfer of property agreement also included the word
"finished" in the language attaching some strings to the
transfer. Neither Steele nor Joseph Bernini, commissioner,
thought the word was appropriate.
The park, planned for use for town residents, would need
to be completed within a time-frame, or the property would
revert to the county. However, it would only need to be
finished well enough to allow public use, said Steele.
"It may be possible to have it ready for public use, but
requiring that it be finished might be pushing it," said
Steele.
"It might take them longer than 12 months to finish the
park," said Bernini.
There were a few other items the commission would like to
discuss with town council representatives, as well, said
Steele. "We have a gravel pit east of Mona. We may need to
talk to the town council about allowing us to have water
there at some future date."
David Leavitt, county attorney, said he would table the
agreement document until he received word from the
commission, following the next meeting, to be held on
Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m., as to the length of time the
community should be allowed to establish a park at the
site.
The commission would also need to work out any other
items they wanted to be part of the document.
"This is now an obsolete document," said Leavitt, "and
should be regarded as such. A new transfer agreement will be
created following the discussion you have with council
representatives."
